Consultation – Thomas Deacon Academy reduction of Published Admission Number (PAN)

The Published Admission Number (PAN) at Thomas Deacon Academy is currently 362 following a temporary bulge PAN put in place to support the Local Authority with a shortage of places in central Peterborough. Through engagement with the School Place Planning Team, Thomas Deacon Education Trust, Thomas Deacon Academy Committee and Senior Leadership Team at Thomas Deacon Academy wish to reduce this by 32 places which will result in an annual pupil intake of 330.  The Academy’s PAN is set at 90 for the Thomas Deacon Academy Juniors and 240* at Year 7 for Thomas Deacon Academy. This will be effective from September 2026 onwards.

*This is the number of additional students admitted to the school over and above those that will move from Year 6 into Year 7 (90 pupils) therefore a total of 330 pupils make up our Year 7 cohort.  Where our Year 6 is oversubscribed at the time of the allocation of places, the PAN number of 240 will be reduced accordingly.

Reducing the PAN will assist the Trust to provide stability in its long-term planning and allow the Academy to secure high-quality educational outcomes for the students currently on our roll, while continuing to provide an appropriate number of places for future pupil numbers in line with demand in the Peterborough area. Although the Regulations and Code of Practice relating to school admissions no longer require an admissions authority to consult when maintaining or increasing a school's PAN, there remains a requirement to consult when the proposal is to reduce. Thomas Deacon Education Trust, as the admissions authority for Thomas Deacon Academy, is seeking comments on the proposed change. It is important to the Thomas Deacon Education Trust Board and our Academy Committee, to consider the views of our parents and the wider community.
