On Tuesday this week, we joined with other members of Peterborough Citizens and took our campaign for affordable housing to the Peterborough City Council planning committee meeting. We were there to support the AEPG UK development for the East of England showground, as they have committed to providing 30% of affordable housing.
We have over 2000 people stuck on the social housing register in Peterborough and 80 children living in hotels. The students involved in this campaign are being truly compassionate, working to change the lives of children in our city.
Riqbah Majid (Year 7) and Daniela Gomes (Year 10) showed enormous courage when they delivered a speech in front of a full planning committee and around 100 members of the public. The other students who attended enjoyed listening to the debate; this led them to show curiosity, asking lots of questions.
Next week 10 students from TDAS will be taking our campaign for better housing to Parliament Square in London, where we will join forces with other chapters of Home - Citizens UK from across the country. The students will also meet with both Peterborough M.P.s and ask for their support.
