Through our work with Peterborough Citizens, we were invited to attend a meeting with our local political candidates; Andrew Pakes and Sam Carling (Labour) and Shailesh Vara (Cons), Paul Bristow (Cons) was unable to attend. We discussed the future of housing in our city. Kason (year 7) and Daniela (year 9) told the moving story of one of our families who had been living in a hotel for over 6 months. They asked the candidates to commit to bringing an end to children being housed in hotels and hostels.
The Labour candidates committed to bringing more affordable and social housing to the city and set out a clear plan, and the Conservative candidate empathised with the plight of our family and explained he had lived in overcrowded accommodation as a child.
